We'll gather at 2:00 to sample the chili submissions then fill out the judging forms. After the votes have been counted, the Chili Queen or King will be crowned and awarded their prize as well as 2nd and 3rd place winners. The Super Bowl game will air at 3:30 PM.
Here’s the rundown for judging your chili:
1. Appearance: First impressions matter. Does the chili look appetizing? Is it a nice, rich color? Is it too greasy or watery?
2. Aroma: The scent of chili should make your mouth water. Does it have a fragrant, inviting smell? Too much or too little seasoning?
3. Texture: Chili should have a good balance—neither too soupy nor too thick. If meat is used, it should be tender but not mushy. Same for the beans.
4. Taste: The most critical part. Does the flavor blend well? Is it too spicy or not spicy enough? Does it have a balanced taste that keeps you wanting more?
5. Aftertaste: After swallowing, does the taste linger in a pleasant way? Or is there an unpleasant aftertaste that mars the overall experience?
